I first heard about this program from my entrepreneurship teacher. I had to think about it first. However I ended up applying, because it was a good opternuniy to learn about how to self-brand and to create a website. Plus it was virtual, which is good during these times. When I first started this program, I was really nervous. I didn’t know what to expect and who to expect. One the first day, when I logged in the virtual meeting, Mr.Jimmy Newson was very welcoming and friendly. This helped me relax a little, because that means he is a kind person. I was also glad to see a colored person just like me. The first thing Jimmy Newson did was introduce himself and speak about his career. We then asked him some questions such as, “How has the pandemic impacted his career”.
Jimmy Newson had given us a sheet to fill out. On the sheet, we had to write a bio about ourselves, state our mission and purpose, and write down any volunteer work, programs, or things we were associated with that we could mention in our websites.The worksheet was somewhat difficult to do, because we had to find a way to write down all the good things about us on a piece of paper without giving too much or too little. It was hard to put it in words. The first time we met him was more of getting to know you. The second time we met, he introduced us to a website called elegant themes, where he had us choose the template we wanted for our websites. The website wasn’t difficult to navigate. It was easy to understand and use. One the next time we met, Jimmy Newson took us on a tour on another site called Wordpress we were going to be editing our websites on. WordPress wasn’t an easy website to use at first. There were so many buttons for so many things. However, Jimmy Newson provides us with many sources of information that would help us understand Wordpress more.
So far, we are five weeks into the program and we are working on our websites. Overall,this program is very informative and helpful. It teaches you how to really think about your future and gives you more knowledge on digital marketing. This program also helps you build on your communication skills. Jimmy Newson knows all his participants and he makes sures everyone talks at least once during the meeting. Jimmy Newson also is relatable with his interns. For example, he talked about how he was an introvert and how he tries to build confidence. I could relate to this, because I am someone who stuffs up a lot. The Jimmy Newson Consulting program helps with teamwork. Jimmy Newson has us give each other suggestions on our websites to make it better. He taught us that it is okay to make mistakes, because it makes us a better person.There was a few days I didn’t come to the program, because I had something else scheduled that time. When I told Jimmy Newson about it, he was very understanding. The Jimmy Newson Consulting Program is a really beneficial program for people who are interested in digital marketing and building up some skills.
