In high school, I was offered many internships and opportunities. However, my fear overcame my sense of excitement in trying out new things. I was not the type to pursue things outside of my comfort zone, I always liked everything to stay the same around me so I would have some sense of control of my surroundings. Unfortunately, I did not realize how detrimental this could be for me and my future career.

The entire process of entering an internship scared me because I would be in a fixed work environment. The idea of growing up has never been familiar, I’m still terrified to this day of having to face the real world head-on as an adult. Upon entering my senior year, I wanted to make this year count and do things I would not normally do. It has already taken a toll on me that this year would be fully remote so this year would definitely not be normal. It was time for me to pursue different things, break out of my comfort zone, and prepare myself for college.

I already had a lot of different responsibilities being a part of the VE Leadership Team, Student-Led Remote Tutoring Organization, and other things but I wanted to try and fit in an internship in my schedule. Fortunately, Ms. Fredericks shared some great news that there is an internship led by Jimmy Newson Consulting to create our own personal branding in the marketing world. Hearing my teacher being so excited about this opportunity automatically made me anticipate what was to come.

In my current experience in this internship, I have identified things in myself that I have never thought would be identified, such as my vision, purpose, and mission. All three of these components of personal branding intertwine with my unique selling proposition (USP), what is it that is so unique about me that is different from all the others? The time I have spent in this internship, whether it is independently or online on Wednesdays, I have spent it thinking about all of the elements that make up my individuality.

My vision is to pursue a career in the marketing field and work at a corporation. My talent as a flexible individual and good communication skills has inspired me to reach audiences more authentically through marketing. It has become apparent to me that companies fail to use authenticity in their marketing methods, which is one reason why some products do not sell well or a company is reaching its downfall. I want to be able to advocate for these companies who are having a hard time and come up with new fresh ideas as if I would be their “last straw”, meaning that I could be someone they can lean on.

My mission is to inspire the lives of different audiences through public speaking and improve businesses through marketing. I have seen some nice digital marketing tactics that companies use to either persuade their audience or inspire their audience. They do this through touching stories, good examples of celebrities and advocates for our communities, and even an advertisement used to convey a cohesive theme to their audience. These types of marketing methods allow for the relationship between the company and its audience to become stronger, creating an overwhelming amount of support between the two parties involved. To have a close enough relationship like this can alleviate all the concerns that consumers and customers have because of the trust bond created.

My purpose is to help businesses create a meaningful and authentic marketing strategy to appeal to audiences on a more personal level. As mentioned before, pursuing this field of work may bring along fears, anxieties, and risks that I may not be prepared for. I want to achieve this goal because I am taking a different approach from others to marketing and advertising to its audiences effectively on a personal level.

This line of work includes reaching out to all communities, backgrounds, and countries as marketing and advertising can end up in the eyes of anyone. Regarding my community, however, there is not much Latino representation in the media and I would like that to change. To reach out to all audiences, there needs to be all sorts of ethnic representation, not just Latinos. I would like to be one of the few faces of my community and encourage all minorities to continue and pursue their dreams despite the racial injustice there is in today’s industry. My future is not only dependant on me and my family, but also on my descendants and my community.
